Forged three-piece socket weld union in Stainless Steel 304/316, Duplex Steel and Super Duplex Steel — Class 3000# per MSS SP-83, enabling full pipe disassembly without rotation.
The Socket Weld Union is a three-piece forged fitting used to create a separable joint in a socket weld piping system. It consists of two end pieces — each with a socket weld bore that accepts a pipe end — and a central union nut that draws the two end pieces together to form a leak-tight pressure seal using a metal ground joint face. The union allows the piping to be fully disconnected and reconnected by releasing and tightening the union nut, without rotating either pipe.
Unlike a full coupling, which creates a permanent weld joint, the socket weld union provides a demountable connection that can be broken for equipment removal, maintenance, inspection or future system modifications. Both pipe ends are permanently welded into the end sockets, while the union nut and ground joint face create the separable pressure seal at the centre of the assembly.
Cunimet Alloy International manufactures socket weld unions as fully forged three-piece sets, with both end pieces and the union nut machined from the same grade of material to ensure uniform corrosion resistance and mechanical properties throughout the assembly. The ground joint sealing faces are finish-machined to a close tolerance for reliable metal-to-metal sealing.
“L” = Overall assembled length. “W” = Union nut hex width across flats. Socket bore and depth are per ASME B16.11 for each NPS. The ground joint sealing faces are flat face (FF) metal-to-metal as standard. All dimensions in millimetres.

Dimensions are nominal per MSS SP-83 latest edition. Unions are supplied as complete three-piece sets (male end, female end and union nut) of the same material grade. All dimensions in millimetres.
One socket weld end piece carries a male convex sealing face and an external shoulder that the union nut bears against. The pipe end is permanently welded into this socket before assembly.
The hex union nut threads onto the female end piece and draws the two end pieces together, compressing the ground joint sealing faces to form a metal-to-metal pressure seal without any gasket.
The second socket weld end piece carries a female concave sealing face and external threads that engage with the union nut. The opposite pipe end is permanently welded into this socket.
Austenitic stainless steel socket weld unions for chemical, pharmaceutical, food processing and water treatment piping systems where a demountable joint in a welded piping system is required. SS 316 preferred for chloride-bearing and marine environments.
High-strength duplex alloy socket weld unions for offshore process piping, chemical plant and desalination systems. The three-piece all-duplex assembly provides uniform corrosion resistance at the demountable joint, including at the union nut body and sealing faces.
Premium super duplex socket weld unions with PREN greater than 40 for demountable joints in seawater service, desalination plant and aggressive offshore piping where maximum corrosion resistance at every joint component is required.
